While little by little physical keypads are being eliminated in the mobile world, Samsung decided to create a phone with a nice front facing physical keypad and full capacitive touch screen as well. Very similar to the Motorola charm, the Samsung Galaxy Pro comes in quite a square form.
The Galaxy Pro comes with an 800 MHz processor and runs Android 2.2 Froyo. It is upgradable to 2.3 Gingerbread as well. Samsung did a good job transforming the user interface into a landscape view that is able to transform into portrait view as well. However, we did experience some lags switching between two views. There were some problems in other application orientation as well.
In terms of the physical design, the Galaxy Pro looks does look very nice. The 4-row keypad feels good to type in as well. The body has a plastic feel to it although it is very steady. The 2.8 inch screen will take some getting used to but the messaging experience is never the same with a physical keypad.
All in all, the Galaxy Pro is a nice variety from the vast collection of touch phones today. It looks slick, does not feel cheap, and does a good job in text messaging and web browsing. For a mid-range Android phone, it’s a good deal.
